About the Featured Composers

Grace Coberly

Grace Coberly is a queer composer, singer, and educator with a passion for vocal music. Above all, they seek to create musical experiences that are accessible to audiences of any background. A runner-up in the 2020 Women's Sacred Music Project Commission Competition, they were recently commissioned by Chicago Fringe Opera, Latin School of Chicago, and Heritage Chorale of Oak Park, IL. Their work has been performed across Europe and the American Midwest.

Grace completed their undergraduate studies in music and linguistics at Haverford College, where they studied under Nate Zullinger, Curt Cacioppo, and Ingrid Arauco; they were also a member of the Bi-College Chamber Singers, in which they served as Musical Assistant and student conductor. They spent the fall of 2019 in Milan studying composition, conducting, and vocal performance with faculty members from Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado, as well as singing with professional ensembles Glass Armonico and Canticum Novum. During the summer of 2020, they attended Temple University’s remote Wildflower Composers Festival and two virtual choral conducting courses through the Eastman School of Music.

Grace is based in Worcester, MA. When not making music, they enjoy doing yoga, roasting vegetables, and wishing they had a cat. Website: https://www.gracecoberly.com/

Hannah Sobel

Hannah C Sobel is a NYC based opera singer and composer. She grew up listening to opera, and later found her niche singing an eclectic mix of early and contemporary music. It was her continued love of opera that made her start composing. Her work has been described as melodramatic and whimsical, yet always relatable. She often collaborates with friend and poet, Reuben Gelley Newman, on art songs and choral works with themes of music, obsession, and queerness. Hannah is a recent graduate of Swarthmore College, where she was awarded the Connie Hungerford and Hans Oberdiek Student Summer Fellowship, the Boyd Barnard Prize, and the Peter Gram Swing Award, among other honors. She is a lover of cats and hyperbolic triangle groups. YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6p24w4d7d9Fru2shXs-6JQ
